Justices of the Peace

Justices of the Peace (JPs) are volunteers appointed by the Governor of New South Wales. The primary role of a JP is to witness a person making a statutory declaration or affidavit, and to certify copies of original documents

A number of Council employees have been appointed as JPs and are available during business hours to assist with witnessing and certifying.

Our JPs are are happy to accommodate and assist walk-ins without an appointment, although do appreciate if you can call ahead where possible. Council cannot guarantee availability of a JP without prior notice.

Finding a JP

You can also find a Justice of the Peace (JP) using the Online Public Register. You can search by postcode, name of a JP, day of availability, language spoken and JP registration number.

The register lists a JPs location, availability and telephone number.

Please note that JPs are volunteers and may not be available at all times.
