2024 Australia Day Award Winners

 Congratulations to all 2024 Australia Day Award winners!

 

  • Citizen of the Year – Wayne Barker - for his long-term support to local charities, sporting groups, local schools and local businesses
  • Young Citizen of the Year – Samuel Kavalieros - for his efforts in supporting the Tigers, Can Assist and supporting the elderly during Covid
  • Sportsperson of the Year – Jack Brien-Rowlandson - for his work as President of the Oberon Rodeo Association and his bull riding achievements within the local and national rodeo circuit
  • Young Sportsperson of the Year – Max Meredith - for his achievements in representing Australia in under 14 Bull Riding in the USA
  • Sports Team of the Year - Oberon Under 10s Junior Hockey Team - for stellar results in 2023 season after a disappointing 2022 season
  • Community Event of the Year - Oberon Tigers Can Assist Round - for raising over $58,000 to assist members of our community battling cancer
  • Volunteer/Volunteer Group of the Year – Live Better Community Transport Drivers - for providing vital transport to those residents without access to private transport options
  • Environmental Champions of the Year - Oberon Can Assist can collectors: Peter Harvey and Don Miller - for their ongoing efforts to recycle discarded cans and bottles. They donated almost $4300 to Can Assist through their recycling effort
  • The Australia Day Working Party Special Award - Keith and Bronwyn Harvey - to acknowledge their life long and extensive volunteering contributions to the Oberon community

There was one late addition to the program which was Barry Richard. Barry was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) in the Governor General’s Australia Day Honours list for his 58 years of service in the RFS and in particular his dedication during the 2019-2020 fires and the protection of Caves House. Barry will be presented with the AFSM at a later date.
